How it works

Three steps. Then your legs do the talking.

Set it up once and the next time you reach for Instagram, SquatLock asks for reps first.

Home screen listing the apps you have chosen to lock
1

Pick your problem apps

Choose any app or whole category through Apple’s own Screen Time picker. iOS shields them for you.

Unlock screen where you set how many squats to do and how long the app stays open
2

Squat to unlock

Five squats for ten minutes? Twenty for an hour? Set the rate, prop up your phone, and the camera counts every rep.

Progress screen showing squats completed over time and the current streak
3

Watch it stick

Every unlock is a set you would not have done. Streaks, totals and achievements turn that into a habit worth keeping.

Features

Strict where it counts. Flexible everywhere else.

A blocker you can’t talk your way past — only squat your way past.

🔒

Real app shielding

Powered by Apple’s Family Controls, so a blocked app is genuinely blocked — not a reminder you can swipe away.

🎯

Reps that actually count

Apple Vision tracks your body on-device and checks depth and tempo. Shallow bobs and fake bounces don’t register.

⚡

Movement Bank

Feeling strong? Bank extra squats now and spend the credits later, when you just need thirty seconds of scrolling.

🔥

Streaks and rewards

Day streaks, achievements and a progress history that makes the habit visible — and annoying to break.

Apple Health, optional

Save each session to Health as a workout with minutes and calories, so your squats land with the rest of your training.

⏱️

Unlocks on your terms

Two minutes to sixty, or “until I lock it”. The timer re-shields the app automatically when it runs out.

FAQ

Questions, answered.

Can I just delete the app to get around it?

You can — SquatLock is a commitment device, not a prison. It is built for people who want the friction. The point is that reaching for Instagram costs five squats instead of nothing, and that pause is usually enough.

Does it work without the camera?

The squat counter needs the camera, since that is how reps are verified. Everything else — your progress, streaks, achievements and settings — works without it. If you decline camera access, the app explains why and links you to Settings rather than nagging.

What does it need access to?

Screen Time, to shield the apps you choose. The camera, to count squats. Apple Health is entirely optional and only used to save your sessions as workouts.

Do I need an account?

You sign in so your profile and progress follow you to a new phone. Your squat sessions and the apps you lock stay on your device.

Which devices are supported?

iPhone on iOS 15.1 or later. The camera-based counter needs a physical device, and app shielding uses Apple’s Screen Time framework.

How much does it cost?

SquatLock is free, with no ads and no in-app purchases.

Your next scroll costs five squats.

Download SquatLock and put something between you and the feed that your legs have to pay for.
